What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR stands for "Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing."

EMDR combines talk therapy with a simple physical movement. It is a type of mental health therapy that begins with a simple and non-invasive physical, repetitive movement such as hand tapping or eye movement while interacting with the therapist. Sometimes, the therapist will use a simple machine that uses light or pulse that the patient can hold in their hands.

The combination of physical stimulus or bilateral stimulation during a guided counseling session can rapidly focus the patient's mind on healing from past trauma, healing current emotional distress, relieve anxiety, and decrease and eliminate depression. For some people, EMDR therapy can replace months of alternative types of mental health counseling approaches. It is safe and comfortable for people of all ages.
